PEOPLE OF PARADISE- A FILM BY SIMON WOODS. EPISODE 1

This video is the first in a five part documentary series by Australian film maker Simon Woods. He lived with Tao for a few months over a period of two years. He calls his film making style ‘deep hanging out’ , where he essentially hangs out with a group of people to until he really understands the story of who they are and what they are doing.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

It started with a spontaneous camping trip on an old fishing boat.

Years of hopping around remote islands and living with different communities led Filipino explorer, Eddie Brock, to travel deep into the remote islands of Northern Palawan.

Tao was founded in 2006, as a island homestay concept, a unique experience of island culture and hospitality in the Philippines.

Eddie and his British friend Jack, and a collective of skilled islanders boarded the Aurora and hosted expeditions between Coron and El Nido.

Word of these adventures spread and quickly turned Tao into a cultish treasure map for travelers from around the world.

Over the years, our tribe has grown bigger and stronger. We’ve found our favourite hideaways, far from tourist crowds. We no longer go to family homes but we’ve built communal spaces for our families to come learn and work. We’re able to use tourism not just for exploration but as a tool for human development.
