Paraw PRIVATE CHARTER
EL NIDO BACUIT BAY to DARACOTON BAY + Tao Farm
Charter Balatik, our 74-foot traditional paraw, for a private sailing adventure through the islands and coral reefs of El Nido with your friends and family.
The largest active paraw in the Philippines, Balatik is a spacious outrigger sailboat adorned with intricate indigenous carvings. You can choose a one, two, or three-day private expedition, tailored to your pace and interests—whether it’s sailing between remote islands, snorkeling vibrant reefs, or simply unwinding at sea.
Departing from El Nido, sail through the towering limestone formations and jungle-clad islands of Bacuit Bay, continuing around the northern tip of Palawan. Each night, dock at one of Tao’s secluded basecamps, where you’ll experience the raw beauty of island life.
With an experienced crew of local sailors, you’re in safe hands. More than just guides, they’re storytellers, explorers, and incredible cooks—eager to share their love for the sea, adventure, and the rich culture of traditional sailing.

The Balatik accommodates up to 30 guests. There’s no minimum number required to book, but a minimum charge equivalent to 15 guests applies.
With hundreds of islands to explore, you set the pace of your adventure. Jump overboard to snorkel vibrant coral reefs, swim to secluded beaches, or relax on deck with a book. The Tao Experience is a social gathering, but there’s always space to step back, disconnect, and find your own rhythm.
We take pride in the food we serve—native fruits and vegetables from our farms, freshly caught seafood, and occasionally, homegrown pork. Vegetarian and vegan guests will find plenty of delicious plant-based options.
Some of our crew fish along the way, so there’s often a chance to enjoy the catch of the day, cooked on board. Guests are welcome to give fishing a try, learning simple local techniques with the crew’s handmade gear.
Tea, coffee, and drinking water are always available. Alcohol and other beverages can be purchased from the bar.
Spend the night in our off-grid bamboo basecamps, each offering a unique setting—a sheltered cove, a wild jungle, or a community homestay.
At the heart of Tao’s basecamps, our Tuka huts blend traditional craftsmanship with modern design. Inspired by the shape of a bird’s beak (“tuka“), their curved, interlaced bamboo structure and overhanging roof create natural airflow and shade, keeping you cool and connected to the elements.
Built by master Palaweño boatbuilders in 2013, Balatik is a 74-foot traditional paraw, featuring two outriggers and no deep keel—a design refined over thousands of years to navigate Palawan’s intricate reef systems. Adorned with indigenous carvings by Pala’wan artists, Balatik was blessed by indigenous elders before her maiden voyage.
“Learning to sail again will help Palaweños escape dependence on gasoline and diesel while deepening their respect for the sea.” — Gener Paduga, Paraw Project Creator
Palawan’s 1,700 islands were once home to a thriving seafaring culture, but traditional boat building and sailing skills began to disappear with the arrival of cheap engines in the 1970s. In 2009, while crewing a yacht around the world, Gener was inspired by the traditional sailboats he saw and dreamed of reviving his homeland’s lost sailing heritage—a tradition deeply rooted in his own Cuyonon ancestry of boat builders.
Today, these skills are being passed down to a new generation. Our crew of barefoot sailors, trained with Tao, are excited to share their craft with you.

HIGHLIGHTS

What You Need To Know
- The Philippines has two main seasons:
• October to May (Amihan – Northeast Monsoon) → Best time to visit
This is the dry season, bringing steady winds and mostly clear skies. Conditions are best for sailing, though the sea can be wavy at times. April is the calmest month, with the flattest seas and warm, summer-like weather. (High season.)
• June to September (Habagat – Southwest Monsoon) → More unpredictable
This season brings a mix of sunny days, rain showers, and stronger winds. Some trips may be rescheduled due to weather, and the sea can be rougher. However, there are still plenty of calm and beautiful days during this time.
• Sun protection: Sun hat or cap, reef-safe sunscreen, and sunglasses.
• Sarong: A must-have for everyone—use it as a towel, sunshade, or beach lounger.
• Reusable water bottle: Staying hydrated is essential.
• Essentials: Small towel, soap, toothbrush.
• Light source: Flashlight or head torch for navigating after dark.
• Daywear: Swimwear for daytime (you’ll be in and out of the water) and lightweight shorts and t-shirts.
• Rash guard (highly recommended): Protects from the sun and occasional jellyfish stings.
• Evening wear: After showering, lightweight trousers and a long-sleeve top/shirt help minimize insect bites.
• Insect repellent: We recommend Kwan Loong Oil, available in our shop.
• Footwear: Sandals or reef shoes for walking on the beach and exploring.
• Extras: Camera, a good book.
Swimming is a big part of the experience, but it’s up to you—some guests choose to stay on board or explore by kayak. If you’re not a strong swimmer, please let us know at check-in—our crew is happy to assist and can provide lifejackets if needed to ensure your comfort and safety.
We use Cashless Bracelets as your onboard credit system for purchasing drinks, services, and items on board or at the basecamps. You’ll receive your bracelet at check-in, and at the end of your expedition, you can settle your balance by cash or card.
For security, keep your wallet and valuables safely locked in your luggage.
